Generally Unsettled
Wintry In the North

Issued: 0530hrs Friday 5th January 2018
Duty forecaster: Matthew Hugo

Unsettled weather continues to dominate across much of Europe, but drier through the Med on Saturday

Friday
Into Friday and something of a north and south divide in the weather is likely to develop across Europe through the day as low pressure continues to dmoinate across much of central and northern Europe, with further rain, showers and wintry precipitation as well. Showers or longer spells of rain are expected across the British Isles, down into France, across towards Denmark, Germany, eastwards into Poland and surrounding countries, while sleet and snow is likely across parts of Norway, Sweden and Finland. Best of the weather across more southern areas, through the Med with some spells of sunshine and generally quite mild as well, especially across Italy.

Saturday
On Saturday and a pronounced change to colder weather is expected across England, Wales, Ireland and Scotland through the day, while unsettled conditions with further rain and showers dominate across France and down towards Spain and Portugal as well. Best of the weather will continue to be through some central and eastern areas of the Med with mainly dry, mild and brighter weather across Italy and eastwards towards Greece. Unsettled weather does, however, look likely to continue across much of Scandinavia with plenty of snow here, very cold as well across Norway with perhaps some extreme minimum temperatures here later on Saturday and overnight into Sunday.
