More snow for the Alps


New Year's Day
A strong storm will move into France from Biscay, bringing potential damaging winds and heavy rain. A cold front will affect northern Spain giving rain. Elsewhere across Iberia it should stay dry, and feeling warm on south-eastern costas, highs 16 to 19C in some spots. Breezy across the Mediterranean. A zone of rain moves across northern Italy into Croatia, with snow over the mountains. Dry for Greece and areas toward the Black Sea.
Snow affects the southern Alps in the morning, but should clear, before further snow arrives into Switzerland from the west later. Rain develops across Belgium and western Germany later. A weak front brings patchy rain for Poland. Fairly mild for southern Scandinavia, with periods of rain for the Baltic states, Denmark and southern Sweden. Showery for western Norway. Cold toward the north, with some snow flurries around the northern Baltic.


Tuesday
Southern Spain and Portugal stay dry and warm, whilst areas toward Biscay will be windy with some rain. Fronts moves into France from the Atlantic, giving another spell of rain. The Low Countries stay dry most of the day, before rain arrives later. Low pressure over southern Italy brings rain, which also affects the southern Balkans and parts of Greece. Patchy snow for the Alps.
Quite cloudy for Germany and Poland, with a little rain, and temperatures near average. Some rain too for Hungary, Romania and western Ukraine. Slack low pressure over Scandinavia results in local areas of snow and rain for Finland, whilst areas around the Baltic should stay dry. Snow showers for northern Norway, but drier toward the south.
